ESTABLISHING A SONGWRITING COMMUNITY - MATT STINTON

Pyramid Structured Songwriting Community

  • Have head songwriters who are the main decision makers
  • Establish a group of songwriters underneath the main leaders
  • Underneath that create a structure to receive song submissions from people in the larger worship community.

There is strength in writing in numbers

  • Use the strengths of the people around you
  • Keep communication clear when working with others to avoid hurt feelings.
  • Don’t let your pride get in the way of what God is doing with a song.

Songwriting is a process

  • If you have a tag for a song try it out in corporate worship and see if there is something on it.

Our songs are people’s moments waiting to happen.

Record your ideas, let them sit, and come back to them later with a new perspective.

  • Steward the ideas He gives you whether it is a random song idea, or if it was a spontaneous moment while leading worship.
  • Remember that your gift is a skill, and takes time, effort, and practice to improve

Make sure your agenda for coming to Lord is to worship Him, not to get a great song idea.
